Council recycling rates in England, 2024-25
As of 24 Oct 2026. Figures for 2024-25, published by Defra on 31 Mar 2026.
This is the government's own figure: the share of household waste that each council sent for reuse, recycling or composting in 2024-25.
Councils come in two kinds here, and we rank them separately, as Defra does. Some only collect your bins. The county, or in some areas a joint waste authority, runs the tips, so tip recycling counts towards that body instead. Others collect the bins and run the tips too, so their figure includes the tips.
Before you compare
- These figures are for 2024-25. A council that has changed its collections since (a new food caddy, say) won't show it until next year's figures.
- Garden waste and wood taken to tips count towards the rate, so councils with lots of gardens can score higher.
- Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland publish their own figures, and we haven't added them yet.
- Councils with the same figure share a rank.
Councils that collect waste but don't run the tips
