Common questions
Why does the app show rules for England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland?
We don't have your council's own rules in the app yet, so it shows the rules for your nation instead. Check your council's website for the local detail.
How do I change my postcode or home type?
In the app's Settings.
Why isn't my bin day found?
Not every council has a bin-day lookup. On this website, Bin days then links to your council's own page. In the app, you can set up your bin days by hand.
An answer looks wrong. What should I do?
Councils change their services, so check your council's website first. Then email us with the item and your council, and we'll look into it.
How do I remove ads?
Go to Settings and tap "Remove ads". It's a subscription through Google Play that you can cancel at any time in Google Play. If you've subscribed before, you can restore it in the same place. (Remove ads is coming to the app in the next update.)
How do I change my ad choices?
Go to Settings, then Privacy options.
How do I delete my data?
Uninstall the app to remove everything on your phone. Scan counts on our server expire on their own. If you've shared scan photos, you can delete them in Settings with "Delete my shared photos". You can also email us. Our privacy policy has the details.
Which phones does it work on?
Android phones now. The iPhone app is coming soon.
Delete your data
How to delete what the Recycle This app holds about you. Recycle This has no accounts, so most of it is on your phone.
- Shared scan photos. In the app, go to Settings and tap "Delete my shared photos". This deletes them from our servers within 7 days. Otherwise they're deleted automatically after two years. Photos from an earlier installation of the app can't be matched to you, so those are deleted after two years.
- Everything on your phone (postcode, council, history, bin days and settings): uninstall the app. To clear only your history, go to Settings and tap "Clear history".
- Usage statistics and crash reports: turn off "Share usage statistics" and "Send crash reports" in Settings. They're linked only to a random ID, and Google deletes them after 14 months and 90 days.
- Anonymous counts and reports (thumbs, problem reports, gaps and place suggestions) carry no ID, so they can't be linked to you. Daily scan counts expire after 7 days.
- Anything else: email hello@howtorecyclethis.com. To have a place suggestion removed, tell us what it said. We'll reply within one month.
