Your bins in Sheffield

  • Black rubbish bin

Collected every 2 weeks Non-recyclable household rubbish, including food waste (Sheffield has no food waste collection). The lid must close. Extra bags left next to the bin are not taken. Put it out by 7am.

  • Blue paper and card bin

Collected every 4 weeks Clean, dry paper and card, put in loose with boxes flattened. You can leave a neat bundle of extra paper and card, tied with string and no bigger than the bin, next to it. Houses are getting a bigger 240-litre blue bin between July and December 2026, and only the new bin will be emptied once it arrives.

  • Brown recycling bin

Collected every 4 weeks Glass bottles and jars, food tins and drinks cans, foil, empty aerosols, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays and tubes, and cartons. Rinse them, put lids back on, and put them in loose (no bags). No black plastic, polystyrene, drinking glasses or broken glass. Nothing left beside the bin is taken.

  • Green garden waste bin (paid)

Collected every 2 weeks (20 collections a year, paid) Grass, hedge and plant clippings, leaves, prunings, small branches, weeds and cut flowers, for subscribers only (£66.58 for 20 collections, plus £35 if you need a bin). The bin needs the subscription sticker. No food, soil, rubble, plant pots, bags or Japanese knotweed.

Flat with shared bins: Flats share bins kept in a bin store, and crews collect them from there. There's a black bin for rubbish, a blue bin for paper and card, and a green (large blocks) or brown (smaller blocks) bin for glass, cans and plastics. There's no garden waste bin, and the new bigger blue bins are for houses only.
